The goal of
the camp is to give motivated high school students the experience to learn in a
collegiate setting while receiving an introduction to both the theoretical and
practical aspects of business. The weeklong camp will culminate with the students
working in teams to establish, operate and analyze their own business venture.
“Widener is
committed to civic engagement, and one of the ways in which the SBA supports
this mission is by providing young people with experiences like this to help
them develop into tomorrow’s business leaders,” said School of Business
Administration Dean Savas Özatalay. “The goal is to inspire and cultivate
success among these youth so that they can eventually give back to and
strengthen their communities.”
Camp
participants will engage in hands-on activities and field trips to gain an
understanding of the various disciplines that comprise a business
administration program. Trips include behind-the-scenes looks at both TD Bank
in Chester and PPL Park, home of the Philadelphia Union.
For the
business venture, the students will develop a business plan, which will require
product and customer research. They’ll also develop a marketing plan and learn
to manage their business’s finances. After launching their business and selling
their product to the Widener community, the groups will then analyze their
efforts and present their results at the close of camp.
